Childcare Assistant Excellent learning environment with great opportunities.

About the position:

We are looking for full-time and part-time Childcare Assistants with a lot of experience working with young children. The Childcare Assistant is responsible for ensuring a safe and fun environment while supervising children during everyday activities.

Job duties: (not a complete job description list)

  • Ensure the children ages zero to five have a safe and fun environment.
  • Assist with teaching children age-appropriate Bible stories and educational curriculum.
  • Assist and participate in the Children’s Physical Fitness Program.
  • Maintain a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues. Use de-escalation techniques when needed.
  • Drive and pick up children from school as needed.
  • Available to work the scheduled hours of Mon-Thurs 9 am-2 pm.

Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate Christian faith and the heart of Jesus Christ in a Christian community environment.
  • Experience in a childcare environment is preferred.
  • Compassion and understanding toward children who suffered trauma.
  • Mandated Reporter Training (provided upon hire)
  • First Aid training and CPR Certification (provided upon hire)

Thrift Store Manager-Excellent learning environment with great opportunities.

About the position:

The Thrift Store Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the thrift store, including staff and volunteer supervision; customer care; financial oversight and cash handling procedures; attaining sales goals and revenues; setting standards for loss prevention; team building; donation processing and visual merchandising. Must be able to demonstrate Christian values and the heart of Jesus Christ in a Christian community environment.

  • Provide spiritual and Biblical guidance by encouraging, praying, and supporting the staff, customers, donors, and volunteers.
  • Consistently communicates and works cohesively with staff, customers, donors, volunteers, and the public to foster a warm, courteous, and friendly professional atmosphere.
  • Oversee and supervise all aspects of the thrift store and donation center.
  • Monitor and supervise the quality of merchandise and store presentation.
  • Increase the Shepherd’s Gate mission awareness in the store.
  • Build collaborative relationships with local businesses and develop resources to receive used or discontinued items.
  • Build and manage a solid social media presence.
  • Perform financial duties (financial reports, cash handling procedures, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain the budget in collaboration with the Director of Business and Finance.
  • Perform various office and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Oversee the training and duties of volunteers.
  • Maintain thrift store policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment. 
  • Meet weekly with Supervisor for One on Ones to discuss successes, challenges, and career goals.

Supervision of staff:

  • Supervise the thrift store team. You may need to take calls to assist when needed.
  • Manage staff schedules and leave requests to maintain full staff coverage.
  • Cover shifts as needed.
  • Hold monthly One on One meetings to mentor and evaluate team members’ success and challenges, inspire the team to achieve store productivity goals, etc.
  • Conduct quarterly staff meetings to provide leadership, direction, and training through example and interpersonal skills.    
  • Participate in the hiring, training, performance reviews, corrective action, and termination processes as needed.

Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate Christian faith and the heart of Jesus Christ in a Christian community environment.
  • Have at least one year of retail and management experience.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule- Store hours M-F 8:30 am-6:30 pm & Sat 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Must have a current California Driver’s license (min 5 yrs.), a clean DMV report, and be able to drive Shepherd’s Gate vehicles.
  • Must pass a background investigation.

Learning and Career Center Manager-Excellent learning environment with great opportunities.

About the position:

The Learning and Career Center Manager is responsible for meeting regularly with the residents to create and execute a career or educational plan. We equip them with the life and career skills needed to be self-sufficient upon leaving Shepherd’s Gate.  The Learning and Career Center Manager oversees the education and training of the residents in the Shepherd’s Gate Programs. This person will oversee all volunteers in the Learning and Career Center. Must be able to demonstrate Christian values and the heart of Jesus Christ in a Christian community environment.

Job duties: (not a complete job description list)

LEARNING AND CAREER CENTER DUTIES

  • Be available to minister to, encourage, and support residents in their learning process. 
  • Conduct orientation with residents to create a case management plan to ensure career or educational goals are met.
  • Continue to meet with residents to accomplish the Learning and Career Center goals.
  • Ensure the Learning and Career Center is open frequently and provide guidance to the residents in the computer lab. 
  • Ability to assess and develop individual learning plans as women learn at their own pace to master writing, math, reading, comprehension, GED preparation, and computer literacy skills.
  • Provide and research new curriculum and resources to teach courses and workshops for the residents.
  • Ensure residents are equipped with life and career skills, including making and keeping a budget, writing a resume, interviewing for a job, and using online job search resources. 
  • Collaborate with outside learning and career specialists (job fairs, schools, organizations, church partners, and volunteers) to provide residents with additional learning and networking opportunities.
  • Use SalesForce to track the residents’ progress in Learning and Career Center and program classes.

PROGRAM CLASS DUTIES

  • Direct and manage the classes for the Shepherd’s Gate Road to Freedom Program.
  • Oversees all classes, needed material, supplies, and class schedules for the Shepherd’s Gate Program. 
  • Oversee orientation for new residents for class schedules and class expectations.
  • Manage and attend activities and events for the residential program on and off campus.
  • Attend weekly program meetings to provide feedback on resident participation and growth in the classes.  Attend leadership meetings and required training. 
  • Hold residents accountable for class attendance, homework assignment, program activities, and program guidelines.

VOLUNTEER DUTIES

  • Interview, train, coordinate and maintain volunteer relationships for all Program volunteers in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator on recruiting volunteers to support the overall success of the residents.  This includes networking with local organizations for possible volunteer, career, and event opportunities for the residents.
  • Track and maintain a volunteer resource list, hours, and contact information.
  • Conduct meetings with teachers and volunteers for training, information, or appreciation.
  • Be present for classes with new teachers or one-time training to assess the class’s effectiveness and address any needs that may arise.

 Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate Christian values and the heart of Jesus Christ in a Christian community environment. 
  • Have at least one year of experience in a career and educational learning environment. Understanding social service settings that included providing related services in the following areas: planning, education, assessment, or administration. 
  • Have a working familiarity with issues and obstacles faced by people in crisis and homeless situations with life-controlling problems. The ability to use de-escalation exercises when needed. 
  • Have compassion and understanding toward the target population of the program.

About the position:

The Accounting Assistant’s responsibility is to assist the Director of Business and Finance with accounting responsibilities. They are to assist other departments in completing special tasks. Must be able to demonstrate Christian values and the heart of Jesus Christ in a Christian community environment.

Accounting

  • Data input of receivables (QuickBooks and First Republic remote deposit via the Internet).
  • Prepare bank deposits, including electronic deposits.
  • Manage Accounts Payable, including vendor relationships.
  • Banking support for our New Life Store.
  • Assist with Payroll and wage reports.
  • Manage gift cards and petty cash accounts.
  • Word processing and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Assist in compiling and delivering reports.
  • Filing and file maintenance.
  • Frequently drives to deposit money or run errands.
  • Additional related tasks as needed.
  • Occasionally assist other departments with special projects or tasks when needed.

Meetings and Events

  • Occasionally attend meetings and take minutes.

  • Frequent errands off-site requiring personal transportation or the use of a company van. 
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs to access areas of filing and storage.
  • Must have a current California Driver’s license (min 5 yrs.), a clean DMV report, and be able to drive Shepherd’s Gate’s vehicles.
  • Must pass a background investigation. 
  • Schedule 24 hours per week.

JOB SUMMARY

The Retail Assistant’s objective is to bring in revenue to our ministry through friendly customer service and selling goods in our retail establishment, The Shepherd’s Gate New Life Store. All of this is accomplished in accordance with the purpose of Shepherd’s Gate, which is to meet the needs of homeless women and children in the name of Jesus Christ.

  • We are looking for a full-time Retail Assistant.
  • You will be responsible for greeting customers with excellent customer service and Process transactions at the register. Includes: cash handling, processing credit card sales, and verifying identification.
  • Provide spiritual guidance by encouraging, praying, and supporting the customers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining all merchandise displays in the store.
  • Sort, price, tag, and hang all clothing, accessories, shoes, and linens
  • Sort, price, and package hard goods items for sale and/or delivery
  • Exhibit professional conduct and communication with Shepherd’s Gate staff, residents, volunteers, and individuals performing community service
  • You can expect to build relationships with donors and team members and see your impact on the lives of those around you.

  • The salary is $17.00 an hour.
  • We are located in Livermore, CA.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
