“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” —Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Recently one of the women in our program was truly struggling. She was discouraged and wondering if maybe she had been dreaming to think she could really turn her life around. Her mind was made up – that night, she was going to quit the program and leave.
Of course, I didn’t know any of this. Not until later.
But God knew. And He orchestrated a small miracle — something we’ve seen Him do time and time again at Shepherd’s Gate.
It had been a long day, and I was getting ready to leave campus. But when I saw her, I sensed that she could use some encouragement. So I began to talk to her and asked if I could pray with her. Not knowing what was in her heart, I simply prayed that God would continue to work in her, encourage her, and give her the strength she needed, even when it was hard. I’m sure I’ve prayed this prayer countless times — but in this case, it was exactly what she needed to hear.
This precious woman stayed, and she has continued to make amazing strides in our program!
I don’t say any of this to make myself sound impressive. It’s all God. The Lord knew what she needed to hear, and He used me to help encourage a hurting heart. We are all just instruments of healing in His hands — and all we have to do is slow down, listen for His voice, and do what He asks.
How has God used you to reach out to others? Feel free to share a testimony in the comments section below.
