The Shepherd’s Gate Programs offer an opportunity for women and children to escape cycles of addiction, homelessness and abuse and to find lasting change through care of the whole person.
Shepherd’s Gate is a Christ-centered program that provides a comprehensive approach to learning the skills needed to live independently in the community. We welcome women (single or with children) who are seeking a structured program to heal from the hurts of the past and gain the services they need on the road towards recovery.
The participating woman must complete the intake process. It should not be other concerned parties. We are not an emergency shelter. If you are inquiring about an emergency shelter call 211 on your mobile phone or call toll free (800) 543-7709.
Our Intake Application is located at the bottom of this page. Our Intake phone numbers are the following: Livermore Campus – 925-487-4147 or our Brentwood campus is 925-308-7507 ext. 307. Our intake team will contact you within 24-48 hours during regular business hours.
Shepherd’s Gate offers two programs to meet the varying level of needs.
Women (single or with children) enter Shepherd’s Gate through the Short-Term Program, which can range from 45-60 days. The Short-Term Program is designed to address the immediate needs of the woman and introduce her to recovery and life at Shepherd’s Gate through Life Skills and recovery classes. The Short-Term Program allows for the opportunity to establish long-term goals, discover areas of need and allows for a time of rest and healing through individual Case Management. This is accomplished through intentional structured time away from distractions.
Upon completion of the Short-Term Program, women are eligible to apply for the Long-Term, Road to Freedom Program. The Road to Freedom program is designed to help women break free of the destructive cycles from their past and find healing and restoration. This 5-7-month program includes comprehensive education and life skills classes, Family Reunification, 12-step recovery, Bible studies, structured and caring childcare and Case Management, which assess the need for additional referrals such as counseling, support groups, financial and debt recovery support, and legal assistance.
The Graduate Program is an additional 3 or more months, focused on equipping women for transitioning into independent living. In this program, women participate in advanced life skills classes for financial and relationship health. Women participate in the Learning and Career Center to obtain job skills training, resume and interview preparations and to advance their education through onsite courses or local colleges. In Case Management women are focused on finding affordable housing resources and planning for self-sufficiency.
Women who have obtained employment and working to establish a savings and reduce their debt are eligible for an additional 6 months in our transitional cottages available on campus. This program includes additional Case Management support to equip the woman and her family for her individual needs.
It’s important that our Alumni continue their life long learning and recovery for themselves and their children. Our Alumni groups meet once a month on campus to support each other and be inspired by guest speakers. The Shepherd’s Gate staff is here to provide additional services such as case management, use of our learning and career center, parenting advice, referrals, prayer, relapse prevention classes and food essentials to make sure they stay on the path to a healthy recovery.
