24 In Your Car is an annual event where our community gets together to raise support and awareness of mothers and children who are struggling to survive homelessness by living in their car. By sleeping in our cars overnight, we know we can’t possibly understand all that they go through, but we hope to gain a better perspective on the many challenges and difficulties they face just to get through the day safely.
The “invisible homeless” are right here in our neighborhoods, struggling to find a safe place to park their car to sleep. Many of them — up to 50% — are there because they’re on the run from an abuser. It’s no place for anyone to live, much less a woman and her children, but we can provide them a safe refuge while they get back on their feet.
