The Power of Words

I’m sure we are all familiar with the nursery rhyme, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

While this rhyme is a good one for teaching children that what others think and say about them shouldn’t control their entire world, it misses the point about the power words have.  The truth is, words are powerful. They have meaning and they have an impact. They can be used to hurt, or they can be used to encourage.

The mothers at Shepherd’s Gate have been hurt so much — many of them by clenched fists as well as harsh words — that it’s time they experience the beauty and healing power of words. That’s why we created the Facebook Mother’s Day card. It’s a place for you to add your words of support, encouragement and love to the mothers who are turning their lives around here at Shepherd’s Gate.

If you haven’t yet added your kind words, I encourage you to take a moment right now and do it. It’s easy, it will only take you a minute or two, and the impact will be profound!
