“Both day and night belong to you; you made the starlight and the sun. You set the boundaries of the earth, and you made both summer and winter.” Psalm 74:16-17 (NLT)What a beautiful verse to consider as we begin the beautiful summer months! I find such peace in the knowledge that God set the seasons. In His infinite wisdom, He set the course of our months and years and all the days of our lives. Still, I admit that sometimes I get a little impatient with God. It can be hard to understand why challenges come up when they do, or why a particular answer to prayer is taking so long. Especially when it comes to the women and children here. They come through our doors with so much trauma and painful baggage — it is hard not to wish I could snap my fingers and fix everything all in one moment. But it takes time for their wounded hearts to begin to relax and trust again. It takes time for them to heal and comprehend God’s unconditional love and grace. Sometimes it takes longer than I would like — and the initial struggle can be painful to watch. But God is so patient! Because He knows each woman and child so deeply, He is able to meet them right where they are and walk with them, step by step, toward wholeness. The more I see God’s work — not only in my own life but in the lives of the women and children here — the more I learn to trust His timing in every season. The same God that set the stars and sun in their places also leads us through seasons of growth and challenge in our lives. We can trust that He knows what He is doing and that He will give us all the strength we need. Are there things you are still learning to trust God’s timing on?
