God Still Speaks

Desiree was sitting in the ER when she first felt God speak to her.

After years of struggling with drug addiction, Desiree was disgusted with what they had done to her life. She had been sober for 30 days when her boyfriend beat her. Although it was far from the first time, this would be the last.

“I heard God say, ‘It’s okay. Don’t be afraid.’ For the first time in my whole life I didn’t have fear. I knew I could trust God with my life and I could leave this relationship. I knew it was God that had kept me sober for 30 days. That just blew my mind.”

She knew if God could keep her sober for 30 days, then God could do anything.

Desiree reported her boyfriend there in the hospital, and he was arrested.

She asked her mom for support, and despite how many times Desiree had let her mom down, the doors were open. Desiree was able to stay with her mother until she could find the program she needed to get back on her feet.

During this time, “my relationship with God flourished,” she said. “I was in love for the first time ever. I was hungry to know more about this God that delivered me from abuse, addiction, denial, and fear.”

After praying for guidance, Desiree wrote to Shepherd’s Gate. Two weeks later, she became a resident. She’s now been sober for a year!

Everyday I heal more and more. I have a healthy relationship with my mom and with my son. I have grace, mercy, love, and joy.”

Praise God for showing His grace to Desiree and for His voice speaking into her life! If you’d like to share encouragement with her, please do so in the comments section below.
