This was not meant to be offensive in anyway. I have worked at Shepherd’s Gate for the last 13 years and have met so many women who have had to live on the streets or in their cars, something which I have not experienced. So to try and better understand, in a very small way, what it is like I borrowed my sister’s van and lived in it for five days. I realize I still do not know what it is like to be homeless, but in those five days I got a micro-taste and it has changed my life and fueled an even deeper passion to help those who are homeless. I am sorry for the pain you are experiencing right now and if there is anyway we can help please call 925-443-4283.

I haven’t had the time to read this to see if this is a true situation but I am offended by the joking ……My friend and I are going through domestic violence getting hit on and pushed around to where we have to leave our homes because being away is better than the intense feelings of staying nice and warm……I feel horrible for the homeless right now because times are so hard for so many =( I have no job and I’m trying my best way to make money….so since you keep saying hypothetical I would assume this is not a true story and you can only imagine what it is like to go without a shower or wander the streets looking for warmth ….Or worse yet, being afraid of someone you love who forces you to leave because staying means losing yourself completely.

Jen, you are so blessed to have use of your sister’s van! When I was homeless with my 4yr. Old we were fortunate enough to have a 1991 Honda Accord-much less room than a minivan… I would have to drive my daughter around til she fell asleep while she cried the whole time to “go home.” Since that time in my life my dream car has actually been a Honda Odyssey
Anyway, I think it is wonderful that you want a greater understanding of what women go through when they no longer have a place to call home. God bless.

Is that why you are wearing sunglasses to hide the bags under your eyes from lack of sleep?? (By the way, I hear Preparation H is GREAT for that, but wait, do you want to spend a portion of your $60 to look good? Vanity or food? Tough decision…)
